Each round starts with 2 mandatory bets called blinds made by the two players to the left of the dealer. This creates an instant pot to be won and gives players an incentive to play. After the flop comes another three cards that anyone can use (community cards) and there is another betting round. This is when you should bet on your strong hands aggressively, especially if they are suited or are hearts. This will force weaker hands out and increase your chances of winning.
Once the turn to act passes to the next player, all of the players still in the hand reveal their cards and the strongest 5 card poker hand wins. You can also win the pot if you have a stronger hand than the dealer. The most important thing to remember is that poker is a game of probability and luck, but you can minimize your losses by being aware of the odds of getting dealt good cards and acting accordingly.
